National Council for State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) conducts National Council Licensure EXamination (NCLEX) as part of its mission to develop psychometrically sound and legally defensible nurse licensure and certification exams consistent with the current practice. NCLEX examination is designed to test knowledge, skills and abilities essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at the entry level. The examination is administered through the computer and can have variable length due to the adaptive testing strategy. The Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) model makes the exam different from the traditional fixed number or time limited exams.
